I used felt for the first layer of my footings, cutting out

a template of my foot just a little bit bigger than what it actually is and then sewing the felt to the

boot on the inside. Then, using craft foam, and flexible cork, I used my foot template again but

cut closer to the actual size of my feet. You will need to cut 2 templates from the cork, and one

from the craft foam per boot. Layer one cork template, craft foam, and then cork again securing

them with hot glue. For the bottom of my boots I used leather which I secured to the craft

foam/cork creation with hot glue being careful to wrap it tightly, but making it as smooth as

possible. I managed to do this by cutting into the leather at the turnings around the heel part and

toe parts and folding the leather over itself. Securing the leather wrapped craft foam/cork footing

to the felt/knitting boot is done by sewing it into place. You may want to use sewing pins to pin

everything in place. After you get through this step you can add a welt or any sort of decorative

finishing you want. I made an I-cord welt using the same yarns and sewed/ hot glued them in

place around the bottom.

Now you have comfy outdoor/indoor boots to hang out in during the cold winter months!

Special Abbreviations:

K2tog = knit two stitches together

P3tog = purl three stitches together

C4B = Cable 4 Back. (Everyday) I had a whole day to craft before pesky work took over my life the other day and I made a cute little summer dress for my niece! Its a combo knit and sew project. I knitted up a halter top with triangles pretty quickly and match them with a coordinating fabric.

The pictures make this look like a purple/pink outfit when really its red and pink. I indeed have a brown belt already that would be perfect with this outfit, but it is lost somewhere in my walk-in closet. When I have the ensemble all put together I will add the picture. Despite the picture, the dress does have shaping at the waistline and will show it better when I get the belt and shirt behind it. The pattern is fairly simple, its just a diamond lace pattern knitted in the round until it is divided for shoulders and back parts. Mine is very thick because I used double strands when I knit this. I'm looking forward to putting it all together and wearing it this spring!

Pink Pea Coat! I know I've been away for a little bit, and although I haven't been posting I have been working on a new pattern/ project. I want to make myself a Pea Coat. Super Bulky weight yarn and bigger needles than what I usually work with makes this bigger/ longer project less daunting. It is still taking me a while, but only because I am making up the pattern as I go. Its knit from the top down and is nice and warm. I'm currently working on the borders for the sleeves, bottom, and sides. I still have the belt and belt loops to go. Add some buttons and I'm done! I'm almost there- Here are pictures of what I have so far :)

Border is an XOXO design. My last knitting project in December of 2010 was a beanie for my boyfriend. I made him one a couple years ago and since then it has stretched out. So I made him another one. I used the same pattern and just reversed the colors. He is very simple and doesn't like a whole lot of color or fancy stuff so I stayed plain jane and kept it simple.

The pattern is from Son of Stitch'n Bitch and it is Terra Jamison's Ski Beanie. I did create some more christmas gifts: a knitted bolero for my niece which I unfortunately don't have pictures of, a decorated apron for my dad, and a pickin' sign for my parents. I am a very big fan of American Pickers and decided to make my parents a picking sign for when they are out back in their garden/orchard.

I also want to say thanks to everyone for their comments on my boots on here and ravelry. I am soo pleased that everyone likes them! I think I will be creating some different boots this next year and maybe some other original knitted items. I also have an arsenal of patterns for stitches my grandma got back when she was learning to knit. I hope to get through some of those this year and see what they look like. As for now, I think after all this christmas gift making it's time for some relaxation!

Both Boots are Finished!

<rect id="_x0000_s1026" o:allowincell="f" style="height: 138.75pt; margin-left: 266.25pt; margin-top: 12pt; mso-position-horizontal-relative: text; mso-position-vertical-relative: text; position: absolute; width: 182.25pt; z-index: 251658240;" wrapcoords="-89 -117 -89 21483 21689 21483 21689 -117 -89 -117"><imagedata o:title="" src="file:///C:\Users\Dustin\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.jpg"></imagedata><wrap side="left" type="tight"></wrap></rect>Winter Bobble Boots

Blair Bradley

Worsted Weight Yarn
Needle Size US 8, straight and Circular
Interior Lining: Faux Fur.. anything fuzzy enough for lining and two bottoms
Sewing needle and matching thread or invisible thread

Abbreviations:
T5L: (twist 5 left) Slip next 2 sts onto a cable needle and let it drop to the front of work, then knit 2 sts and purl 1 from left hand needle. Transfer these stitches to circular needles and try to make it so that when you come back around to the back stitches you knit. Pick up 20-22 stitches from ankle marker to end of toe and same amount of stitches from the toe to the other ankle marker. Place marker on circular needle and knit 4 rows, bind off. Out of interior lining material cut out foot bottoms leave some room around your foot or use a template. Sew on to bottom of boot. If you just want inside booties you can leave the bottoms this way, if you want to be able to wear them outside, get leather material (use the smooth side for the bottom) and sew on to the bottom of the boot.

Finishing

To finish you can make loops and lace yarn, leather string… whatever you want through them, or you can find buttons you like and just wrap the yarn around and lace them up that way. You could also put snaps on and snap them up! I chose to find some cool buttons, put three on each side, single chained yarn to make a long string and added pom-poms on each end and tie them at the sides.

The knitting pattern is pretty simple and easy to knit, but the finishing end of the project is time consuming, but well worth it. These boots knit up for a range of sizes; I would say 6-8. I have small feet so for a better fit and added cushioning; I folded and glued the extra knitted material (top and sides) under before adding the leather bottom pieces. You should pull them under snug for a comfy fit, but when sewing on the leather bottom be sure to not to lose the design you’ve knitted. If you have larger feet and want to use this pattern you could repeat the pattern (rows 8-23) once more before you start the decreasing rows.

I hope you like these boots and get creative with your finishing touches!

One Boot

So with school, work, and all the other miscellaneous stuff going on in my life, these boots seem to be getting doen slowly. I have one done and I am very pleased with it. Now to get the other one done. The interiors are lined with fluffly fabric I got at Walmart and the knitted yearn is simply red heart worsted weight yarn. I also got some cute buttons at Walmart and I plan to make a pom pom at the ends of the lace ups. I finally found some leather pieces at Micheals for the bottoms. Yay! This was the hardest part, finding leather that I liked and was the right kind for the bottom of my boots. I finished up the green Ice Age Boots from before with nice brown soles. Now they can be actual outdoor shoes! After my finals (tomorrow) I will begin working on the other and when they are both done there will be pictures and pattern!

December Is Here!

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas... well maybe in other parts of the US, here in Las Vegas its cold but no snow. I even worked out on the patio last night and we were busy! I am still working on my own little boot projects, but took time out to make a Christmas gift fot my future Mother-in-law. It's a wonderful scarf. Its not too often I make scarves anymore, especially from a pattern. However, I took this as an opportunity to use the size 17 knitting needles I bought and then never used. I pull them out every once in a while and think I should do something with these, and then I try to start a project and get frustrated by how much it throws my tension off and end up frogging the whole project before I've really even started. But I made it through this time and made a great, fluffy scarf in really less than a day. It turned out great. I used super bulky yarn and then trippled it.

The pattern is a simple P1, (K1, P1) repeat, with a small cast on of 9 sts, or any odd number cast on. Going to work and then back home to get back on my boots! Hopefully I will have a gorgeous picture to show you tomorrow. I'm in the process of lining the front and back pieces before joining them together and knitting the final piece.

More Boots.. work in progress

I liked the way my felted boots turned out so much I've decided to create my own. However, these are not going to be felted and have some detail work to them. They are a dark brown which I intend to line with a cream or white fuzzy material. Although it will look great when finished, the dark yarn does not make for great pictures. I have the first, front part completed. As I am making the boot pattern as I go it is challenging in some parts but I feel confident I have gotten over the hardest hurdle which is shaping the down to the toe and changing the design pattern to end in a loop rather than to just keep going. Next on my agenda is to create the back and then pick up the stitches and knit around, joining the two pieces. Here are some pictures of the front piece. I will post the full pattern and completed project when I am finished!

Ice Age Boots! Here they are laces and all! You can find the pattern for this in Maggie Pace's book Felt Forward. The book has lots of fun little projects with the bigger projects consisting of a nice wrap, cute sweater, and a big hoop bag. This project took me longer to make than I thought they would. Finding all the additional leather lacing, and deciding what to do for the bottoms was more challenging than I expected. I am very pleased with how they turned out.. They are quite time consuming and in only stockinette stitch, very boring. Its also very boring that have have to make the same thing over and over again; for the exterior and interior.. I did make the interior color different. They are to be felted too, which I hope goes well. I don't have the things from my last felting project. Truthfully I can't even remember what it was that I made, so it must not have turned out very well.. Hope this one turns out better! Will post pictures when I get them done.

Weaving

So I heard weaving is suppose to be the new hot thing in crafting. There are many different kind of weaving out there from table weaving to the elegant baskets and tapestries made by South American tribes to Indian tribes. The latter are very beautiful and in a class by themselves. The project which I am undertaking is niether one of these.

I am at heart a knitter, and I really enjoy the ready-set-knit attitude towards projects. There is not a lot of set up before the actual craft. I don't own a large loom, nor do I wish to buy one (they can be quite huge and fill up entire rooms), so this is my adaptation. I want to create a bag, so I have assembled some ribbon, a structure for each side (large embrodery looms), and a hot glue gun. The design of the first side is coming along very well, although I feel I could keep adding to it without end. This is still a work in progress and as I am working on it I feel it is going to turn out to be a hat box bag. It is probably going to have hinges and a clasp at the top before it is completed. There is more design work to be done to the front, but here it is so far. At the moment I think it has maybe 2 hours in it.

Back from the dead!

So I know its been a loooong time. I got wrapped up in life. But I am back now and with new knitting and craft stuff. The first one I would like to share with you is a lovely leaf scarf. The actual leaf pattern is something I found online and then made 30 of them.. I am very tired of making leaves. Haha. At the end I was cranking one leaf out every half hour!

Knitting frantically in the Starbucks coffee shop on UNLV campus. Let me say some days they have really good jazzy music to knit to, other days some awful ear wrenching music. But I am very happy with the end result.

The link for the pattern is below along with my ravelry project page. I posted pictures of the different ways I was also thinking of laying out the leaves for this scarf.

http://www.ravelry.com/projects/knittingguru/veined-leaf

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/veined-leaf

Element Beanie

Element Beanie

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311046189787160290" style="FLOAT: left;
